Planned prevention or reduction of pollution is cheaper than rectifying after the event. In the UK we dispose of around 20 million tonnes of refuse each year, 90% of this ends up in landfill sites. We use approximately 750,000 tonnes of office paper and only 10% of this is recycled. It therefore makes sense to minimise waste and pollution to reduce long term costs.
